They are role models to a lot of today's youth and when they screw up a lot of people see it.

Apparently lots of people care. I don't. They were showing on the news all the different appologies in the past. They were comparing Hugh Grant who cheated on his girl friend with a prostitute to Mel Gibson who made anti semitic remarks. These are two very different things. I must admit I really turned on Tom Cruise when he said those things about post partum depression. I never had it or anything, but it just made me think he is a total horse's a** and I can't stand him anymore.

People eat up controversy, that's why papers like Star and the Enquirer are so popular... sad, but true... So when a celeb' does something heinous, I suppose his or her publicist make them offer public apologies... They want to keep their fans, not lose them, otherwise they lose money!

Because 1. People look up to them 2.The public is who gives them their paycheck...if it weren't for the "public" they wouldn't be so rich...or stupid for that matter!

They apologize because as a public, we demand accountability for their actions. Because they are famous, we seem to feel their private life is open to our judgement. Also, because they are so publicized, they are examples of conduct--it's wrong for us to see them as examples...but there it is.
