Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Mormon Church was founded by Joseph Smith in the 1800's. Apparently, he came upon some texts indicating that Jesus Christ reappeared in North America after His ascension into Heaven. They consider themselves to be Christians, but almost every other Christian sect has denounced Mormonism as a "cult." Mormons claim to believe in the Bible, but they also believe in the Book of Mormon, which contradicts the Bible in many ways. When in doubt, Mormons rely on the Book of Mormon over the Bible, and that's probably the biggest reason the other Christian sects have denounced their religion.

Mormon is a colloquial term used to refer specifically to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in some contexts to members of smaller denominations that broke away from the Latter Day Saint movement. The term is derived from use of the Book of Mormon, one of the faith's four books of scripture known as the Standard Works. The book, in turn, derives its name from Mormon, an ancient prophet who compiled and abridged many records to form The Book of Mormon.

It is a religion founded by Joseph Smith who followers believe he was a prophet of God. They believe that heaven is full and that God is going to make the earth new again and that is where all Christians will live instead of heaven.

When Joseph Smith was asked about the basic beliefs of Mormonism, he summarized the teachings and doctrines in 13 points, which are today known as The Articles of Faith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Articles of Faith read as follows:
1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon this the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12.We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

The Plain Truth about the Mormons
http://www.av1611.org/jmelton/Mormons.html
The Mormon people of today are highly respected in our society, but there is nothing respectable about their doctrines. Mormonism is a dangerous cult.
In the eyes of man, the Mormons seem very respectable, but the light of God's word reveals the true wolves behind the sheep clothing.
Jesus said, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." (Mat. 7:15)
Don't look at their nice families, their clean-cut hair, and their friendly "missionaries." LOOK AT THEIR DOCTRINES! (I Tim. 4:1)

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, widely known as the LDS Church or the Mormon Church, is the largest and best known denomination within the Latter Day Saint movement and views itself as the restoration of original Christianity (see Restorationism).
Members of the Church—known as Latter-day Saints or Mormons—regard Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior, who overcame death, atoned for the sins of all humanity, and invites everyone to be redeemed through him. They believe that Jesus Christ appeared with God the Father to Joseph Smith, Jr. and called him to be a prophet and to organize the original church established by Jesus Christ on Earth through a restoration which included the return of priesthood authority and the calling of new Twelve Apostles. They also believe that Jesus Christ, as head of the Church, is actively leading them through ongoing revelation. They accept the Bible to be scripture, "as far as it is translated correctly",[1] and use the King James Version of the Bible.[2] In addition to the Bible, they accept additional writings such as the Book of Mormon as inspired scripture (see Standard Works), and do not consider the canon to be closed. Thus, they consider themselves Christians, but not part of the Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant traditions.
The Church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and its current president is Gordon B. Hinckley. The Church reports a worldwide membership of 12,560,869 as of December 31, 2005[3], with 6.7 million members residing outside the United States. It is the fourth largest religious body in the United States[4]. The Church membership report includes all baptized members, and also "children of record", i.e. unbaptized children of baptized members. Members living in the US and Canada constitute 47% of membership, Latin America 36%, and members in the rest of the world 17%. (See membership distribution and growth history). A Survey by the City College of New York in 2001 extrapolated that there were 2,787,000 self-identified LDS adults in the United States in 2001, an increase of 1.3% over their 1991 survey, making the LDS Church the 10th-largest religious body in their phone survey of over 50,000 households.[5]
