You can sleep any way you are comfortable. Congratulations on your baby.

Girl, relax!! You can sleep on your back until you feel you are suffocating from how big your belly is. You're fine!!

Just when you get bigger, like about 7 months, you should start sleeping on your left side because your back and your right side has major vessels that can be blocked off from the weight of the baby and lack oxygen to you and the baby.

Hope this helps.

It'll be fine. The reason you should avoid back sleeping is because of your belly putting pressure on your heart. The thing I have been told is that as long as you don't go to sleep like that it's fine. You can't help how you move during the night. Relax, you'll be okay and so will baby.

Actaully, sleeping on your back is not 'harmful' for most women, just can lead to discomfort for you and the baby. The baby could lay on your sciatic nerve (which runs down the spine and through your hip joints and then down each leg) this can cause pain for you. For the baby, when you lay on your back, it feels to them as if they are laying on a rock bed, because of your spine. At nine weeks, these things may not be an issue but will be later one. Also, laying on your back may put too much pressure on cetain blood vessels, causing you legs and feet to cramp up. Just is better to lay on your side with a pillow between your knees to take the pressure off of your hip joints. Hope this helps a little, good luck!

Congratulations, and my dear you can sleep every which way you like, Babies are born every second and trust me, the majority of expectant mothers
doesn't care where and how they sleep. Besides the average person turns multiple time during the night anyway, waking up lying on your back doesn't mean you have been sleeping on it.
Good Luck

No you are not suppose to sleep on your back...I am pregnant with my 4th child and I never wake up on my back...that is because I keep it in my mind that I need to be on my side. It is a mind over matter thing for me...if I know that I need to do something I just keep it in my head and enforce it.

You can sleep on your back, you may just find it uncomfortable as the pregnancy progresses. You may find yourself propping pillows behind your back and sleeping sort of sitting up.

Sleeping on your side is fine; my doctor always told me the left side was best.

I was told not to sleep on my belly.

you aren't supposed to sleep on your back. something to do with lack of oxygen. however if you wake up like that there isn't much you can do. just try to stay on your sides as much as possible

Well they say your baby will stop breathing if you are on your back. But we all end up on our backs at some point and most babies end up okay. As you get bigger, it is also more comfortable to lie on your side and easier to get up.

I slept on my back my ENTIRE pregnancy because it was the only way I could get comfortable, and the doctor said that was fine for me, so I would do whatever works best for you.

NEWS FLASH Michelle. You breathe for your baby i.e through the umbilical cord is where it gets its oxygen. If you don't breathe the baby won't either. Baby doesn't take its first NECESSARY breath until after its born. Right now its lungs are just practicing.
