For starters they are caused by the human papilloma virus, which is part of being human, and there are as many as 60 different types.
Warts tend to grow where theree is friction, but not always. THere are different types of warts. Aloe vera gel, myrrh, oil of clove, lemongrass, peppermint tea tree, wintergreen, trinctures of black walnut, chickweed, goldenseal, pau d'arco have all been found to externally treat warts. Increasing the amount of sulfur containing amino acids can systemically cure the overall problem.
Place a small dab of one of the above objects on two or three times a day until the wart is gone. Also topical vit A helps, and on the cheap rubbing a potato (folk medicine) is supposed to help.
warts are one of the easiest medical problems to fix!

Warts are caused by a virus, don't typically turn into anything bad (except genital warts can) and take FOREVER to get rid of. (Unless you have the doc just shave it off. Home remedies include over the counter topicals that contain salisylic acid 40% applied as directed on box, duct tape (yes, it really works) applied as long as it stays on until the wart is gone (may take up to a year, but the wart will be there longer if untreated), and the over the counter freeze stuff (doesn't work well at all). Or you can have the doc freeze it with liquid nitrogen (maybe 2-3 treatments depending on size) or laser or just cut it out. Good luck
