On XP click control panel, then printers and other hardware, then look for add hardware in the top right. Click add hardware and see if this device is even installed. Also make sure you have correct drivers installed for your sound card, also check mute and volume controls. See if your subs power light is on, is it pluged in to working outlet, and are all wires hooked up correct?

first thing that would be helpful to know is have you had a set of speakers hooked up and working prior to this new sub system.

And what operating system are you running, since it is a new pc i will assume it is XP.

if not please go to My Computer, right click and go to Properties, now you're in System, go to the Hardware Tab and click Device Manager, assure your sound card is indeed installed and not classified as a "Other Device"

Open up your case, make sure your sound card is plugged in and NOT touching the case...most parts of a computer can tell if they are touching the case and turn themselves off. And check your settings in Windows...my mom's soundcard broke from touching the case...don't worry, new ones are a snap to put in, and only cost around 5-7 dollars.

Could not bee getting power to the Sub. Make sure the power is good by trying a different outlet...if the sub has lights, make sure they are on....
