Which would be easier to learn - bass guitar or the piano? Which one would you choose and why?

The bass is a lot easier to master. The piano is probably the most complete instrument there is. What other instrument can you play 10 note chords on. Plus the piano covers over 6 octaves.
The bass is usually played one note at a time. Most songs are based on repeating bass patterns. Its actually a simple instrument to master.

Bass Guitar. Both instruments take a lot of practice to become very good at.
Starting out, however, the bass guitar is easier. You can learn a few simple chords on bass guitar and can accompany others in a couple of months. Piano, on the other hand, takes a lot longer to really play with some skill.
I don't know any bands where someone started the piano and was playing with a band 2 or 3 months later, but there are plenty of garage bands where the bass player only began playing recently. Of course, they only could play a few simple chords, but they could play with the band.
Whichever you choose, practice - and learn your chords.

The bass is a more basic instrument with fewer permutations of notes and chords. Therefore it is simpler.

The piano is an instrument you can play a wider variety of music on, and in more complex ways.

The bass you can carry around with you, while the piano, well I guess a portable keyboard would do.

I'd prefer the piano just for it's diversity, and plus I have very big hands.

I'm not sure why but I think a bass guitar would be easier to learn to play. I'm going to get one soon and I would choose it because many people who play are really talented and well known and those people are usually hott!! (Example: Pete Wentz..)
