Gravity.
If you've got any kind of belly, it's pulling down (gravity) all day long. When you sleep is not being pulled towards your toes anymore, and probably more towards your back - hence the soft stomach - nothing to worry about.

I seem to have that same problem. However I'm seven months and not showing as I thought I would be. When I wake up my stomach feels the same way. I'm well aware that my baby moves but sometimes I do feel not so pregnant. I guess it is normal now that I know I'm not the only one that feels like that.

Don't sleep on your back!!! The baby could lay on your sciatic nerve (which runs down the spine and through your hip joints and then down each leg) this can cause pain for you. For the baby, when you lay on your back, it feels to them as if they are laying on a rock bed, because of your spine. At nine weeks, these things may not be an issue but will be later one. Also, laying on your back may put too much pressure on cetain blood vessels, causing you legs and feet to cramp up. Just is better to lay on your side with a pillow between your knees to take the pressure off of your hip joints. Hope this helps a little, good luck!

First of all you shouldn't lay on your back, but seeing as how you are past the 12 week mark, I think that you are fine.
