We just returned from San Diego... we saw lots of cars that just have plates with the dealer name or souvenier plates that said "Surfin'" or "Beach" etc... How can so many cars drive without "real" plates? In New York, we wouldn't even think of pulling out of the driveway without "real" plates on the car.

Just wondering. Thanks in advance for answers... I really do come back to read them all. :)

We are required to have real plates, too.

When you buy a new car, you have registration papers in the lower right corner of the dashboard, so you have the dealer or souvenir plates in front. You must have viewed several new cars.

Also, since San Diego is near the San Ysidro entry point from Mexico, you see "BC" plates, or sometimes no plates, from vehicles crossing the border.

BTW, California requires licensne plates in the front and the back, by statute.

here in california we can donate money for special causes like "save the beach" hence the beach llicence plate. others are for "save the whales" "911" is the newest. there are about 10 to choose from. the lowest cost is 50 bucks per year up to 150 bucks. this is done through the DMV or online DMV. i have a personalized plate, who doesn't in california.

You might be referring to novelty plates that some people have on the front of their cars. We are only required by law to have a "real" plate on the back. Also, a ton of people here have vanity plates.

relies upon on the state, it extremely is greater subject-unfastened to allow in elementary terms a rear plate interior the south. I drove to North Carolina from Wisconsin in a friends motor vehicle and had no problems till we've been given pulled over coming decrease back into Wisconsin. The cop gave my buddy a cost tag and advised him that the only reason we made it there and decrease back is using the fact some police assume the vehicle is from a state the place it extremely is superb and don't look heavily sufficient.
