I was planning to watch Phantom of the Opera in Broadway when I visit NYC for the first time in about 2 weeks. Any good/bad things about the show? Any other shows worth the money?

Great. much better then the movie. I've seen it twice. However if I went to NYC now, I would try to see Spamalot. It is the musical of Monty Pyton's holy grail and the stars were (and i think still are)Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azari.

Phantom is great! But it is a really intense show.

If you want something funny, I was just in NYC last week and saw Spamalot and Dirty Rotten Scoundrals. Both were really funny, and I know you can get half price tickets at the Time Square Information Center for Dirty Rotten Scoundrals. It isn't selling out any more. Spamalot is still full price, I think, although TIX may have two-fers.

Oh, another great one that I saw in DC, but now is on Broadway is Wicked. It is fantastic, but almost always sold out. The Producers is hysterical too, even though I only saw the movie, but my Dad saw it on stage.

Check out the link below and you can preview the different shows...

Have fun, and good luck!

I didn't enjoy it that much - but my wife loved it.
Shows worth the money on Broadway according to JAT:
"The History Boys" - English comedy with philosophy
"Rent" - Updated La Boheme-like story.
"The Lieutenant of Inishmore" - A little gory, but very good.
"Avenue Q" - Comedy with wacko puppets & people - don't bring the kids unless their street wise.
"Spamalot" - Monty Python-esque. Very funny.
