These days, entire news articles can be run-on oxymorons:
President Bush ordered Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the Mid East again Tuesday in his most recent fact-finding mission. Bush is under scrutiny for using padded figures in an attempt to justify the invasion of Iraq in order to promote regional peace and stability. Dr. Rice specializes in thwarting world criticism by promoting guarded openness and a gentle firmness.
Rice's short trip to Baghdad was marred twice by violence. In the first instance, native gunmen opened fire on international peacekeeping forces surrounding a village believed to be a Shiite stronghold. The second incident was blamed on friendly fire associated with outdated British and US military intelligence.
Tony Blair addressed Canadians who were upset at the further erosion of the peacekeeping mission. Ian Figg of Canada's Progressive Conservative party answered for Blair, "You can't break an egg without making a few omelets now and again."
President Bush was at nearby Camp David on a working vacation and could not be reached for further comment, according to a White House public relations spokesman who asked not to be identified.
