I'm having a strange problem with my mouse. Twas working fine yesterday, but today, when I double-click to open a file, the search page opens instead. So when I right click on a file, I have to choose 'open' from the pop up menu in order to get into the file. It's just like 'search' and 'open' have changed priority. Very strange... and VERY ANNOYING. Can anyone help? I checked out the options in control panel and there's nothing there to do with it.. so I'm kinda flummoxed >: <

Get a Cat! Ok. ok.... try using another mouse to verify that the original one is at fault. This will save you $$ incase you buy another and the same thing happens. If the borrowed mouse does the same then it is definitely in the Windows Settings. Although you did not go into the Control Pannel and messed the settings up, there are Hot Keys (or short cuts on the keyboard) to do such changes by simply pressing a combination of keys (Like "CTRL" and "C" to Cut). So borrow a mouse and there you can find out if it is the mouse or the settings :) Oh yeah, don't take it to a PC place cause they charge big $$ just for looking at your PC!! That is why I fix PCs for free ;)

I doubt this has anything to do with your mouse. Does the search come up regardless of file type or just on certain file types? (altered default program to open file type)? When you say a search page opens is it the windows search my computer page or a browser window opening to a search engine (possible spyware hijack)?

You should just buy a new mouse and see if that works, they are only about $7. If that isn't the problem you need to take the CPU to a computer technician.

I suspect some kinda virus or spyware. Always have an antispyware, antivirus, and a personal firewall running. Mechanically that seems too wierd.

It's not the mouse. Something has gone askew in your software. Have you scanned for a virus?

Have you tried rebooting your PC? Sometimes that can help with weird problems.
