Here is how I look at it? Would life go on without professional sports? Yes. No one's life would be threatened. Would people be affected if there were no farmers or people building houses, or if there were no police officers? Yes. I am a huge sports fan but I think almost every other job out there is more important than being a professional athlete. Even the bagger at the grocery store has a job that has more importance than a professional athlete because he helps a person get food back home to their family. I know athletes keep their body in great shape, but that is a choice. It isnt like they are putting their life in danger. I play sports all the time, I have had both ankles sprained at the same time. I just dont think they should be getting paid millions of dollars for a simple game. For the amount of energy they use I would say pay them a few hundred thousand, but nothing more. Also, what does the U.S. President make, 300,000 dollars per year? I don't agree with everything Bush has done, but his job is way more important than Kobe going for 81. Again, I am a huge sports fan, but it is a little disappointing on how greedy athletes can get. But I will say this, if the athlete thinks they can get 50 million, then why not try. Cannot blame them for trying. Kind of have to blame society for letting their salaries become socially acceptable. We still go to games to watch, so people must find their salary acceptable.

No athlete should be paid more than $3 million a season. I don't care how many touchdowns you can catch or how many times you can slam dunk, I'd rather see good money go to teachers, garbage men, police officers, etc. If people don't go to the games then the team makes less and are forced to lower ticket prices which equals lower revenues and ultimately lower salaries. The only exception would be a sport like golf, where the corporate sponsor foots the bill rather than owners charging steep ticket prices as a way to overpay their so-called "talent." Same thing goes for actors and singers as well.

It's not really about the importance of their jobs, it's the economics of the business. There's no law that says athletes have to be paid ridiculous amounts of money, since this is a free enterprise. A star pro athlete isn't as replacable as a garbageman or a truck driver, and they wouldn't be making that much money unless the fans wanted to watch them and the owners were billionaires.

When professional positions for sports first came out the players were lucky to see $5.00 a game that they played. Now they are paid millions even if they sit the bench. They are the best players and they should be paid for their talent. I have to admit that they get paid an awfully large sum but watching them play is worth it to me. A Superbowl wouldn't be the same without it being played by the best. Who would want to watch an amateur play a round of golf? I wouldn't watch the little league world series but would die to see one one played by the professionals. I think that they should be paid what they are worth and since millions of people enjoy watching them they they deserve the millions that they get.

At least 50% of what the teams make. If they don't make the money then some man in a suit sitting at a desk will pocket all of it and he didn't play a single second all season. The rest of the money can be slit between the suits, advertising and upkeep of the franchise.

These are entertainers as well as athletes and should get paid very well.
It may seem outrageous to make millions for a season of ball, but it is far better to give that money to the players who earned it than to their team's owner.

whatever they are getting paid right now
a normal person can work into their 50's or 60's. Pro athlethes can barely work past their 30's so they need to get their money asap. You always hear about former players who have gone broke years after they finished playing.

i dont think they should get paid a lot, but i think baseball players are over paid. all they do is take steroids, hit a ball, and stand around and wait for it to come to them. no opinion on fb.
