When you are in a situation where you have to make some choice but are not sure what to do.
The 'gut feeling' is when you make a choice that you feel will be right.

Before presented with a situation, an individual has morals, emotional intelligence, and intellectual strengths. When the situation occurs, how that individual feels in areas that are strongest come quickly to mind-regardless of whether it is correct or incorrect. For example, Sally is taking a test, and she reads the question: What is personification? she's going to answer whatever comes to mind first that makes sense. Once she denies that it is correct (non-human objects given human characteristics) she has a gut feeling answer. She procedes to think of another definition of personifcation...say, person of a nation. (Terrible example, sorry). Sally realizes that because she knew the correct answer so quickly she should go with it, hence the "gut feeling." There is often a stomach pain that sticks out only when you think about your initial answer.

How does it work? That's an excellent question! I myself believe that the "gut feeling" (or intuition or perception) is one of many senses that human beings possess...it's not "extra sensory" or "paranormal" or "supernatural"...I believe everyone possesses this sense, (we'll call it the "6th sense"), but lots of people have learned to "ignore" it, to their own detriment. I believe God gave us this sense (along with all others) not just so we can better perceive our environments, but for our own personal safety and protection. It would be very wise for people to learn to recognize this sense when they feel it, and to pay attention to the "warning" it presents to us....it is never "wrong"...
We live in a fact-based, concrete type of world, where the abstract and hard to define is laughed at, and the unproven is unspoken and unrecognized.... It would be hard to scientifically study the "gut feeling", yet it does exist nonetheless, and those who are good at recognizing it and heed it's warning will tell you they do not regret having done so....It has saved lives, prevented disasters....It's definitely something worth paying attention to. People tend to want to "explain away" the feelings they get, using fact and logic and reasoning to do so...I think we tend to forget that we have the ability to acquire useful information on a more sublime level, and tend to scoff at things we cannot pin down with concrete evidence.... It's too bad many people ignore, repress or deny a "sense" that could be not only a very useful tool in their daily lives, but one that could very well be something that saves their lives someday.

for instance there is a new guy looking at you.. at the same time you get this feeling he is really weird.. But you ignore this feeling and go for him, and in the end you get treated bad by this guy and you were like, why didn't I know he was a jerk? YOU DID.. in the beginning, you had a feeling he wasn't good for you.. you ignored it... so its a feeling in the pit of your stomach something isn't right.. you always go with that feeling.. It always works for me.. EVERYONE has a gut feeling.. Whether they use it or not, is their discretion..

It's you intuition guiding you. You should always go for first your first impulse when you're not sure of what to do. Most of the time it's right. Sometimes, it will also help you find the right place to start, even though it won't reveal the answer
