Because inner beauty is not better than outer. If you are ugly... people wont even take the chance to get to know you. So people want to look the best that they can...so then someone will get to know your inner beauty too!

Because in our society inner beauty is not better than outer beauty. It’s sad but true. Inner beauty goes a long way but it’s proven that better looking people get higher paying jobs and are initially seen as nicer or just more positively.

Because it makes us feel good - it doesn't make us better - it is just gives us a superficial satisfaction. Inner beauty will be there no matter how a person looks - but usually if a person is feeling good about themselves on the inside, it will manifest itself on the outside.

By and large, we're brainwashed into believing that beauty is all-important, by the media, tv, newpapers, magazines, etc..
Only when we're not as beautiful as those unreal faces we see on tv and in the mags, they want to sell us all the cosmetics, etc, to 'improve' us.
Inner beauty is far greater than outer, but, outer is more visible.

We are allowing the mass media to dictate what our society's cultural "norms" are. It's called the "beauty myth" and it's basis lies in how the media portrays the unrealistic standards that women are supposed to look like.
However, there are groups that are beginning to fight back for the sake of younger generations!

I think it's because people want to look like they fit in. When there are different styles that are popular, (hair, clothing, shoes etc.) people rush out to buy them. And everyone seems to want to cover up their flaws with make-up. (Women, anyway and some men). I personally don't wear make-up unless I'm going somewhere that I have too. What you see is what you get!

because we live in a very shallow world where looks are important and everyone wants to look like a model or celebrity. I personally don't spend allot of money to look good. love me as I am or not at all.

The inside may be beautiful, but if it was covered with garbage would you want to open it. There are extremes, but you should be happy with the way you are, and if not... don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff.
