I just started 'Tropic of Capricorn' by Henry Miller and my book just before was 'Deadeye Dick' by Kurt Vonnegut. I'm enjoying the rambling-ness of both of these authors at the moment. :)
Before that, I was reading 'Abarat' by Clive Barker, and 'Liquor' by Poppy Z Brite. I take the train to work, so I read a lot. :)

I've been reading a lot of YA books recently. Some of this year's YA novels I'd recommend are Specials by Scott Westerfeld, New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, Just Listen by Sarah Dessen, Hit the Road by Caroline Cooney and Mercy Unbound by Kim Antieau. My current book is Rash by Pete Hautman.

Great Books by David Denby. At age 48 he returns to Columbia University to redo the Humanities and Culture Courses. In this book he tells us about the books which are on the courses reading lists and the significance of them. A really great read.

Hi...
I recently read a book called "Revenge Gifts" by Cindy Cruciger. It was fun.
It is about a woman named Tara who lives in the Florida Keys and runs an internet business that specializes in sending gifts that promote revenge. It is a really cool story. It has ghosts, and a vodoo priestess... and of course, revenge. I am not good at describing books, so here is a description from Amazon.
"TARA COLE SPECIALIZES IN REVENGE. In fact, she's an expert. Lace pillows filled with cat hair-for your least-favorite, most allergic relative; boxer shorts that set off metal detectors-for your cheating spouse; and her best seller at RevengeGifts.com: chocolates for your worst enemy, so you can watch gleefully as she packs on the pounds. Tara's best friend warns her that all this revenge is damaging her karma, but Tara doesn't care about her next life-- she wants to enjoy this one. Besides, her kitchen is full of cranky ghosts. Tara figures she'll be the same one day, when she leaves the mortal plane. That might happen sooner than she thought, because someone has put a curse on her. A black cat, a black dog, even a black goat, appear, each followed by bizarre, almost-disastrous events. And it all started around the time Howard showed up. Howard says he wants to go into business with Tara, but it seems like he wants to go to bed with her. Unless he's the one who cursed her . . . . Is this karma coming full circle-- or destiny knocking on Tara's door?"
Best Wishes...
T.

I just finished "Seductive " by Thea Devine. Some people are "afraid" of her writings because they are seriously raunchy. She pulls absolutely no punches when she is describing certain scenes. This book was a historical about Nicholas Massey and Elizabeth. Elizabeth has come into riches after her husband's death. But his nephew, Nicholas, comes home to claim the prize and he comes to claim more than just his money. He has the sizzling hots for Elizabeth, and boy, they are like rabbits in almost every scene. In spite of that, the plot is very credible and pertinent.

Appointment in Samarra, Butterfield 8, Hope of Heaven. Three books in one by John O'Hara. Not well known but a great writer. Gives you an account of class distinctions in 1930's America.
Eye-Witness to History by John Carey: Eye-Witness accounts of historical events which you may or may not have an interest in. Such as: Dickens witnesses an execution. Wounded by a fascist Sniper by George Orwell. Fun but can be gory.

I just started reading Oliver Twist. earlier this summer I read The Art of War and The Fountainhead.
I recommend the Fountainhead by Ayn Rand to everyone, it is my favorite book and I've read it several times. But i warn everyone that you will either love it or hate it.
the others I read because I like classics. I like being able to catch other literary references to them.
