I hear if it is triband and unlocked i can just buy a sim card in Shanghai and use it right away... Is that true? I have an old Nokia 6010 from cingular and I want to see if I can bring it on my trip. Thanks!

No it isn't TRIBAND, just 850/1900 Mhz, but u can unlock in some stores, it's about 15 or 20 bucks, it's better ask before if can be activated in Shanghai. I don't think so, try a Motorola V535, 4 band, already unlocked, for 149,00 dollars, good deal, have a nice trip.

True my friend you just have to contact customer service and tell them what you are doing first so they don't think the phone has been stolen. It worked for me in Mexico.
However reading the first answer you received it might not with Cingular....I did not have Cingular wireless as a carrier but it was a Nokia 6010.

It all depends. If you got the phone directly from Cingular, it is probably locked. If your phone says "Cingular" when you turn it on, then it is locked.

All Cingular phones are GSM meaning that they will work around the world.
