Without the fault of the parents, which means no herditary disease. Perhaps just because one came out earlier and one came out a little bit too late? Is there a possibility?

Yes, it's possible. There is something called Twin to Twin Transfer Syndrome, where basically one of the babies is getting all the supplements from the placenta, leaving the second baby very little. Other reasons would include prematurity, In Utero Growth Restriction (which is different from TTTS), complications during delivery... and I'm sure other reasons too.

Yes, I know someone that recently happened to. One of the babies got it's cord wrapped around it's neck I believe, and didn't live.

The parents sent out a beatiful announcement, celebrating the birth of their sons and mourning the loss of the one at the same time.

yes it is possible. I have 3 kids and am pregnant and two of my children are identical twin girls. My doctor did warn me that at the end of my pregnancy i may only have one healthy child. It is a risk you have to take with multiple births.

Yes. The 2nd twin is always at more risk. If there is one placenta and it separates and the 2nd twin is born after some time, he may die.

Yes. This happened to my husband's step-brother. His mom was 22 weeks pregnant with him and miscarried his (fraternal) twin. My grandmother also had a twin brother who died at birth.
