Nvidia GeForce (thehigher the no. the better) and ASUS (the more expensive the better.) Yes, you need a motherboard with PCI-E. My ASUS doesn't have one but I'm not a serious gamer.
ATI's are faster (the best ones) but their graphics aren't as good. It's your choice.

fastest nvidia graphics card:
Nvidia GeForce 7950 GX2 [2 underclocked 7900gtx's glued together]
fastest ati video card:
ATI Radeon x1950xtx (coming August 27th) [an overclocked x1900xtx w/ gddr4 memory]
if you get the nvidia option, make sure u get a motherboard that supports SLI (preferably the newer 5xx series). if you get the ati option, make sure you get a motherboard that supports crossfire (a newer version is coming soon).
