Yes, the Red Sox will win it. They won 98 games in 2004, a year where Nixon was on the DL for practically the whole year and Bill Mueller missed 52 games. They only finished 3 games back in the division and easily won the wild card. There's still more than a month of baseball left to play.

Not this year. The Yankees are just too strong with their massive payroll. Offensively, NY is awesome. Their pitching will be good enough to win the AL East. I hope I'm wrong because I would love to see the Red Sox nudge the Yankees out of the division title and probably the playoffs by finishing ahead of them.

i'm hoping the crimson Sox win all of it. the element is, back in 1978, the crimson Sox had a 12 game lead in August and the Yankees got here each and all of the previously to tie on the final day and that they had a play-off game the place Bucky Dent hit a game triumphing homer to win the branch and to circulate onto the international sequence. additionally remeber that the crimson Sox had a three-0 deficit interior the play-offs some years in the past against the Yankees and that they got here back to win the ALC and the international sequence. So something can take place.

I doubt it.
The Yankees have an offense that will score a ton of runs, and their starting pitching should be enough to get them through. Lidle is a big upgrade at the back of that rotation, and Unit at least can't get much worse.
I just don't see the Bosox having enough to catch them. Schilling has been superhuman, and it will be tough to maintain that all season. I think Papelbon is the real deal, but their other young pitchers are starting to show some cracks, and I think their offense isn't quite as strong as that of New York. It's not a done deal, but I don't see them catching the Yanks.
As for the person who metioned them surviving the loss of Varitek - How hard is it to survive the loss of a guy who's on the downside of a good career at age 34, hitting .243, with a horrible .331 OBP? That's like wondering how a team can survive the loss of Neifi Perez.

Little indian has got it alright. And even if Wake is out, he wasnt exactly dominating in 2004, Mirabelli will be back in like 5 days, Wilymo hit a 451 bomb at kansas last night so theres our RF, Lowell may have slowed up but defense is still better than Mueller, and 2003 aside, Mueller didnt hit .300
And well Varitek, Lopez is no substitute and until then, lets hope our pitchers can show why there in Boston and pitch good w/o V-tek.

I don't see it happening, they have lost 3 in a row to the D-Rays, and Royals.....YUCK.......Teck is out for at least another month, we have no 4, or 5 Starter until Wakefield comes back and Wells gets it going (who knows if he can). The bullpen is full of young unproven arms and old tired arms. Lowell has stopped hitting and Javy Lopez just plain stinks. This Sox team is built for 07 not this year.

too early to tell the yankees are hot right now but i beleive their pitching will let them down soon. the red sox have to get more consistant pitching especially from the bullpen. this will most likely come down to the last week
