That must have been some bite to make you scratch so bad the you bruised yourself. Next time use some anti-itch cream or a cold pack to cool the itching down. Make sure you do not break the skin and cause infection.

I have never heard of your problem before. I don't know much about West Nile Virus, but I would go to the doctor, or at least call the nurse and find out what to do. If it is still hurting or scratching, put some calamine lotion. It is pink stuff, it usually comes in a clear bottle, unless they changed the way the produce it.

all the scratching tore the tissue on your skin which created the bruise and there wouldn't be swelling unless the bite got infected

you have sensitive skin to bites and you scratched them and it bruised them. its nothing I would worry about just dont scratch any more.
