27. Geometry. Floor plans for a building have the four corners of a room located at the
points (2, 3), (11, 6), (3, 18), and (8, 21). Determine whether the side through the
points (2, 3) and (11, 6) is parallel to the side through the points (3, 18) and (8, 21).
28. Geometry. For the floor plans given in exercise 27, determine whether the side
through the points (2, 3) and (11, 6) is perpendicular to the side through the points
(2, 3) and (3, 18).

It's the second problem (#28) that I need to do, but it refers to the first problem. Thank you!!!!!!!

The slope of (2,3) and (11,6) is 1/3. The slope of (2,3) and (3,18) is 15/1. For sides to be perpendicular, the slopes must be opposite reciprocals of each other (..I was looking for the slope of the second side to be -3) and because they are not, the answer is NO.

#27 - The slope of the line between the points (2,3) and (11,6) is 1/3 (slope is determined by the difference between the y-coordinates divided by the difference between the x-coordinates). The slope of the line between the points (3,18) and (8,21) is 3/5. Parallel lines have equal slopes, and therefore these two lines are not parallel.

#28 - The slope of the line between the points (2,3) and (11,6) is 1/3 (see above). The slope of the line between the points (2,3) and (3,18) is 15. Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative inverses of one another - a line perpendicular to a line with a slope of 1/3 should have a slope of -3, and so these lines are not perpendicular.

the condition u need to fulfill to confirm that 2 lines r parallel is that the slope of both the lines shud be equal.
similarly, 2 prove that 2 lines are perpendicular, u need to confirm that the product of the slope of 2 lines is = -1.

first let us find out the slope.
for the line made by (2,3) and (11,6), let us name the slope as A.
for the line made by (3,18) and (8,21), let us name the slope as B.
now, the formula for slope is
slope = (difference in the y-coordinates) divided by (difference in the x-coordinates taken in the same order)

therefore,
A = (6-3)/(11-2) = 3/9 = 1/3 (u cant do (6-3)/(2-11))
similarly find B.

if A=B, then both are parallel.
for #28, check whether C*D= -1 (name the slope of the 2 lines formed as C and D)

Do it urself, n be confident :)
