My favourite character is John Coffy from the Green Mile. In this unusual departure from examining human evil, we are surrounded by human compassion and innocence. But true to form, evil has its way of infiltrating and twisting the truth. Coffy is a messianiac character in the sense he is a healer, simple of mind but wise beyond his mental capacity who redeems those around him but not himself. His only route to peace is being condemned to death for a crime he did not commit, yet he welcomes it and dismisses the offer of help to escape as it would put the officer in jepordy with the law. Reading this story, we, like the prison officers, are privy to a miracle that remains hidden from those who would be able to free this man. The authorities would not believe a word of it , and like most miracles that we hope occur sometimes on this planet, they are strongest when kept secret. Telling the world would only dilute the goodness and it would lose its power to change lives, instead being ridiculed and thrusting humanity further into darkness. King seems to say cherish the small moments -when we are in the dark, even a tiny candle will light up the room.

I'll have to say Jack Sawyer from The Talisman and Blackhouse. These books sorta have a connection to the Dark Tower books. The reason why I like this book is because in The Talisman he's only a kid and he sacrifices himself and travels across the country so he can save his mothers life. In Blackhouse he tries to forget about what he did as a kid and he succeeds but in the end he couldn't run away from his past because he eventually caught up with him.

Noffair! I was going to say Clown from It. I couldn't put the bloody book down and had to sleep with the light on.
All the female characters are wet.

Except Carrie at the end of the story.

could it be from a screenplay instead?

i love the shawshank redemption...one of my favourite movies ever, so would probably choose Tim Robbin's character from that.

i used to read Steven King...until i was reading pet sematary at 4am, just when the cat comes back from the dead...at that moment my own cat jumped up on the bed and scared me witless...haven't read a horror since!

It has to be Roland the Gunslinger! He's one of my favourite characters ever! Not really a nice person as such, but a very genuine and single minded one.
