There was a question posted asking why the price of gasoline was so high; people like to respond with "we keep buying it, don't we?" I buy it to get to work, to the grocery store, to the doctors office. I walk and cycle when I can. I don't take pleasure trips and I don't fly on aircraft. Gasoline is not a luxury. We don't just pay for it at the pump, by the way. There should have been alternative fuel on the market eons ago. Is there a way to really protest this and win?

The problem is that the majority of Americans do "keep buying it." You and I have reduced our consumption as much as we can and can barely make ends meet. We're paying more at the grocery store; more to heat our homes; etc. When I got groceries last week, buying less than I usually do, I paid about $25 more than 2 weeks prior to that. If we tighten our belts anymore we won't be able to breath. You're right, gasoline is definitely not a luxury. The time we should have becoming truly energy independent began back in the 1970s during the oil embargo. If we had we wouldn't be in such desperate straits now. The technology for more fuel efficient cars, homes, business, etc. already exists. I believe if those folks who continue to purchase (and waste) excessive amounts of fuel would boycott we'd see prices come down.

Plain and simple NO! Nothing is going to change our dependence on foreign oil imports. All the talk of hydrogen cars or all electric or bio-cars. It's all just talk. Until Gas prices get so high that none of us can afford it anymore then things will change. Conservation is NOT going to change things. The price will be $5.00 per gallon before radical changes will be DEMANDED of our government. Right now people are gripping but the concern is just that, a concern, thats all. When you start to see people out in front of courthouses demanding relief then you will see changes. Personally I don't care how we do it. WE have enough oil in this country to take care of our needs it is just less expensive to buy it from arabs than it is to drill it ourselves. The technology is here to make hydrogen "commuter" cars (they can't go over 60 but it costs nothin' to drive) We have loads of bio-fuel resourses that we don't use. The alternatives are there but the demand is not great enough yet. Like i said, once it gets over $5 a gallon then we will see changes.

No,
We will be allowed to barely keep our heads above water until marketing, distribution, and product availability are regulated by the powers that be. In 1980, Texas A@M at College Station powered a 1979 Pontiac GTO with hydrogen that would go 120 mph. The official response was that it would put too many people out of work.

If you are such a believer in alternative fuels, why don't you come up with a few inventions? Why don't you invest in alternative fuel companies?

Why don't you stop asking the government to fix everything? It can't, it won't, it will create worse problems along the way.

And what do you think of nuclear energy? Not a good alternative for you, I guess.

I agree... don't have much choice. I drive 50+ miles every day and would love to have a dependable alternative.
I cancelled 3 trips this summer due to gas prices, cut back on mowing my lawn (texas heat helped too) and don't ride my ATV (helps that it has been too hot)
But again, if a viable alternative was around, I would definitley make my best effort to use it.

The only way that I can see is to petition our representatives in Washington to start drilling in the wilderness. Let the protesters
do their thing. But this would greatly decrease our dependence on foreign oil, and vulnerability to the whims of the Middle East.

It sounds smart, yet honestly it may do little to electrify the fee of gas. foreign places opposition is what's utilising international gas costs now - that and Wall highway speculators. China has develop into the 2d-best client of gas, and is desperate to develop into the biggest interior of five years. Son, in case you think of gas expenditures too lots now, wait until eventually China gets to that element: you will see gas costs right here circulate to seven, 8 or greater a gallon! are you able to declare "we are screwed"? Cuz we are - maximum folk basically don't be conscious of it yet.

Get rid of gas guzzling SUV's

We have a hybrid Ford Escape at work, it gets less gas mileage than my normal Nissan Altima.

Search on "Pennsylvania Dutch" or Amish". Read about how they live in the world of today. When you, and everyone else, is ready to live that life, then we all will win.
