I have a verrrrrry faint blue positive line on one of the + - test but I don't see how I could be pregnant as I have an IUD. My period is not really due until tomorrow (don't ask why I'm taking the test in the first place). What do you think? Positive or is it just an error on the test?

False positives are rare. Here's some info:

.False Positive Pregnancy Test
Question: When is a false positive pregnancy test possible?

Answer: In general if you have a positive pregnancy test that's a clear sign that you are pregnant . A false positive pregnancy test is a positive pregnancy test even though you are NOT pregnant. A false positive pregnancy test happens rarely, but can happen both with blood and urine tests, though in each case, the causes can be slightly different.
Before you make the diagnosis of a positive pregnancy test make sure that you followed all instructions. Most manufacturers suggest to read their test after 3 minutes and to NOT READ it after 10 minutes. Once you have a negative test after 3-5 minutes THROW OUT the test. Any positive test appearing only well after that time is inaccurate and cannot be considered positive.
False positive urine tests can also occur under the following circumstances:

Fertility treatment: If you receive shots of hCG or gonadotropins (for example, Pregynl, Profasi, Pergonal, APL) for ovulation it's posible to have a positive urine or blood pregnancy test for two to three weeks after the shot and not be pregnant. A rising blood hCG level usually indicates a pregnancy.
Evaporation line. If you read the test after the suggested time has passed.
Chemical pregnancy
Certain rare medical conditions such as trophoblastic disease, islet-cell tumors
Some drugs like Methadone, chlordiazepoxide, or promethazine can give a false positive pregnancy test
The most important false positive blood test is a 'phantom hCG tes

the blue line is a confirmation that the body has produced some of the HCG (pregnancy) hormone. It could be a sign of an early pregnancy, which isn't necessarily to last. Also with an IUD a fertilized egg can implant itself at an ovarian tube. Check again in a week, especially if you have other pregnancy related symptoms. You might also then want to contact your OB/GYN for further evaluation if it shows still positive then.

Good luck

Hi it does not matter how faint the blue line is you are pregnant and the IUD is not 100 percent you will need to go to your doctor they will want to do a scan first then remove the IUD but be warned you could lose the baby because of the IUD.
P.S Good luck hope you get what you want Hun

I had a false positive every time I took a test. My doc said that it was due to a hormone balance that was higher than normal. I don't take at home tests anymore, they alwasy read positive. I go to the doc for a blood test, (my husband and I are trying to concieve, which makes it false hope too)...If you have an IUD, chances are that the results are acctually negative...but if you are concerned, you should go to your doctor.

You could have a false constructive, however simply considering you took it before your overlooked interval does not rather imply anything. It could be that you simply ovulated and obtained pregnant before the common cycle time, or it would be that your hormone levels are excessive already. Both means, two positives usually only approach one factor.. Congrats!! In case you are quite wondering about it and are nonetheless stressed, name your health care provider. They are able to do blood exams and different assessments to insure that you just are not getting a false optimistic. More then doubtless, it is constructive. Most being pregnant assessments now will also be taken earlier than your missed period, and like I stated earlier than, your timing would be off and that may make you more pregnant you then think you might be. Valued at calling your dr and speakme to them about it.

You may have a fake confident, however simply given that you took it earlier than your ignored interval does not fairly imply whatever. It might be that you simply ovulated and acquired pregnant earlier than the common cycle time, or it might be that your hormone stages are top already. Either manner, 2 positives traditionally simplest manner something.. Congrats!! If you're fairly considering approximately it and are nonetheless careworn, name your health care professional. They can do blood checks and different checks to insure that you simply don't seem to be getting a fake confident. More then most probably, it's confident. Most being pregnant checks now can also be taken earlier than your ignored interval, and prefer I mentioned earlier than, your timing might be off and that could make you extra pregnant then you definately feel you're. Worth calling your dr and speaking to them approximately it.

There is no such thing as a false positive, only false negatives. The blue line means there is some HCG, pregnancy hormone present in your urine. You only make that if you are pregnant.

I'm not accusing you but street drugs can cause a false positive. I knew a girl who took 5 tests and everyone was positive- a blood tests showed she was not pregnant. She was/is a drug user.
