there are many high quality cubic zirconias that look just like real diamonds. the high quality ones usually contain a flaw or two (called "feathers") that make them look authentic. it is important tho, if searching for a look-a-like diamond, not to settle for a regular glass diamond. these often look extremely fake. consult a reputable jeweler and you will find that cubic z's are an excellent and price worthy choice if looking for something other than the real thing.
if this is to be an engagement ring, and you are a realitively young couple, the stone can always be replaced in a few years when funds are more readily available. or you can opt for an aniversary band with the real thing.

Why do they look so of course pretend? Are they enormous and gaudy? perhaps you need to placed on smaller pretend diamonds, as genuine ones are often smaller and don't shout for interest. To lead them to truly sparkle, soak them in a answer of water to which has been extra some drops of dish detergent and ammonia. some pretend gem stones can relatively fool human beings in the event that they are of a discreetly smaller length.

Only to the un-trained eye. I can spot a fake one from a mile away. You have to know what to look for.

Yes, I think if you get a good enough one, they do. I wear my fake 'bling' all the time. That way if I lose it or get mugged or something, it won't be THAT big of a deal.

Mossanite diamonds (sp?) make it almost impossible to tell the difference- AND they dont look like frozen spit like the CZs do.

on your ear is hard to tell if you don't wear anything that is size of a pea because they won't put their face too close to your face to tell the difference. on your hand they probably will lift your hand and scruntinze it.
