Because, golly shucks, its "god's" war.God's on our side, and shucks,if we'ed just follow along with Bush, who was SENT by god, then gee,the whole world will become democratic and so nice.
In short,he's delusional.

Joe Lieberman is planning to separate from the Democratic party, and run for president as an Independant. So his views don't need to represent those of a Democrat. Nobody asks why Republicans support the war in Iraq.

Because stepping out right now will leave them in a civil war in which the side we want to win will definitely lose and wind up making Iraq a haven for terrorists (instead of just a breeding ground for them). The difference between breeding ground and haven is that in breeding grounds they aren't safe, but the population is angry and willing to join the side they think will end the "occupation" by America. A haven is a safe place where terrorists won't be killed or extradited, but in Iraq right now they have a fairly good chance of being killed until they get out of Iraq.
Leaving now is a bad idea, but Bush is staying incorrectly. The truth is that while we have the technology and the people to do this thing, Bush is no longer willing to send in enough people out of fear it will only drop his numbers again and ensure the loss of Congress to the Democrats and maybe the presidency later as well. If we are going to stay, we need to send in enough people to do the job, or we need to leave already. Bush is unwilling to do either. But Joe Leiberman and Hilary Clinton (and John McCain for that matter) have the right idea, but are in a party that may not realize it yet. But the Republicans have it wrong also, because the majority want to stay in the way Bush is handling it. The correct route is what those three I mentioned are touting.

I don't think Bush has done a good job managing the war myself but Lieberman understands at this point there is no turning back. To pull out now would give terrorists a new foothold and lead to more 9/11 attacks. Is that what you want?

Because he's a wimp who probably got kicked around a lot in school, so now he has an inferiority complex. He probably plays with those little plastic soldiers at home, pretending to overrun all of the middle-east. He has delusions of becoming an armchair general and can't face the fact that hardly anyone actually likes him. So to bolster his sagging ego he convinces himself that he's more important than his political party and that he's going to force himself on the people of Connecticut whether they like it or not - because getting thrown out on his can will hurt his delusional presidential aspirations.
And oh, yea - "W" owns him because Lieberman likes when Bush kisses him.

Because he is doing the right thing. Two of the three candidates running for the US Senate in Connecicut are for the war. Odds are that Lieberman or the Republican will win. Lieberman could also win as an independent and become Republican.

lieberman is a buffer. his function is to divert attention to mundane idiotic nothingness.
what reason would he have to continue seeking any type of votes knowing he will not win.
when the media focus on his "waste of time" antics that means a more important story is being neglected
ignore this man

He doesn't support the quagmire and he has criticized it. But he doesn't believe that the US forces packing up and leaving is the answer either.
