GOOD FOR YOU. Running is such a wonderful exercise, but not a mainstream sport anymore.
Regardless of other advice, DO NOT get an iPod or anything else that plugs into your ears. YOu need to listen for cars, dogs, danger, etc.
Maybe if you read Runners World or some other running mag, it would help you understand what is going on in your body when you run. WHAT A GREAT WONDER that your body can sustain such elevated activity. And I found that when I was running 3 to 6 miles a day, all the pizza and beer couldn't make me gain weight.
Finally, at the point when I was in the best shape of my life, I was in an accident that sidelined me for several months. LIFE-THREATENING. But I was back to work in a month because of the tremendous physical shape I was in, cardiovascular, muscular, and overall general health.
Good LUck

1. Get an Mp3 Player with headphones that fits around your arm, and download your fave songs
2. Try different routes with different terrains. Alternate going up and down hills, or try going around the block a different day, or at a different time of day. It may change your perspective more than you know.
3. Enlist a friend or a borrow a dog to keep you company and keep you motivated.
4. Keep your running shoes by the door-you never know when inspiration may strike!!
5. Last but not least, be open to different activities. Powerwalking, hiking, rollerblading, biking and swimming can all be GREAT cardio workouts and they are not so hard on the joints!! LOL Variety is the spice of life.
Good luck and don't give up!!

That's good that you're keeping in shape. Maybe to make running more fun you should listen to music while your running or run with a buddy and talk while your running. Or if that doesn't work, run with a girl you like or have met. Maybe a girl that you have met while you were running. Do you have any pets? maybe run with your dog?

(1) Run with a friend or
(2) Reward yourself with something after you do your run. That way you have something to look forward to after you've completed it or
(3) Run with an iPod or
(4) Try biking - that's always fun. Just triple the distance you go on a bike.

Two things I've tried that have helped me motivate myself to excercise
Rewards-It's easier to push yourself to do things when you have a pay-out. It doesn't take much just make deals with yourself that you'll allow yourself to do something you like if you'll work out on your shedule. My big motivator was 10 extra minutes in the shower in the morning if I put in 30 minutes at the gym on the way back from work.
Challenges-Set a schedule of how far or long you want to run or time yourself on the same distance, try to beat your personal best, set a new goal to work towards. Then you're not just going through the motions of being healthier, you're seeing yourself improving your health and working towards the next improvement.

Take different routes everyday, that way you have something new to see everyday. Bring music (iPod, Cd player, MP3, etc...) - but make sure the music isn't so loud that you can't hear everything around you. That's important. Don't think about actually running, or it's gonne feel like it's taking forever, think about other stuff that's going on in your life. Trust me all of this helps, I am on the Track team - so i know this all works! Take care!

If running with a friend, once in a while take a few minutes and play follow-the-leader; go over fences, under things, through a playground. Run backward some since you have someone to watch where you're going. And stop by here, I need to start running too!

I don't know, but I find it tedious too. Physically, I can run 2 miles, but I find it boring. I've even taken headphones, but that doesn't help. The only thing that I've found that kind of makes the time go by is running on a treadmill in front of the TV. But, I don't know where you go running.

three surefire things...
1. use ipod nano/shuffle /good FLASH MEMORY-BASED mp3 player
2. keep changing the time you start running by 2 min intervals, until you accidentaly see an interesting male/female (whatever suits you) and if you aren't too shy, try to make friends(or more) with 'em. then you can look forward to meeting 'em everyday
3. after you're done running eat somekinda' candy you crave, in small quantities.
this should make you want to run, when you know it's going to be fun

I have the same problem. It helps when I have someone to run with. Musca also helps past the time. Also if you are a goal motivated person set goal to work twards each month or have a loved one do it. For example. have some one takeyou out to your fav resturant if you do you run every day for the month. Or treat yourself to something you usualy would not. Hope this helps
