Bail can be really subjective, there are guidelines for bail amounts related to crimes but they're uninforced. He could have done a serious crom, he could have done a lot of petty crimes, he could just have rubbed the judge the wrong way.

First time offenders who get 250 large are almost allways Drug Offenders and usually more than just posession. Assault or burglary could go this high with intent or priors, Armed roberry or homocide can go this low if it's negligent or Accessory. Blue Collar crime ends up here a lot. While the Boyfriend may not seem the type he could have been involved in any sort of illeagal scam that was highly profitable but not very well designed.

There are many reasons why a judge may decide to set bail higher than outsiders might expect. It is possible that there was a small infraction which caused him to be noticed. When records were run there were outstanding issues with no corrective action taken by the boyfriend.

I have, in the past, called a jail to find out if one was there... after calling hospitals and such. He was. When I asked why, they told me what happened then and in the past to make bail so high. Because he did not fix his past, I did not put my home on the line to bail him out.

You have your suspisions. You may or may not be right about the particulars, but you are right to think of your neice first. She likely still believes in him and it will be a difficult time for her.

Something quite serious. Could be drugs, armed robbery, DUI hit and run, etc. Probably wasn't his first offense so they set bail rather high.

You can contact the county court clerk and ask how you can find out the exact charges.

Now is a good time to be supportive of your niece and get her to finally leave the looser. Do not let her post his bail.

Good Luck,

He probably had a previous charge and a hearing in which he failed to appear. Usually when they fail to appear, they will set the bail very high. I would suspect drugs were involved both times of his arrest.
Sorry about the choices in BF your niece has made, been there with my daughter before. We just hope and pray they grow up to make better choices!
God Bless

go to the county web site & they should have the records online b/c thats pubic info (but it might not be in the system yet if its a big county, it might take a couple of days)

Sounds like something to do with drugs...if someone had been killed (either manslaughter or murder), they probably wouldn't have set any bail, and he'd be sitting in jail.

Wow. Could be a lot of things. I suspect it could also be due to his past history, criminal history. Sounds like the prosecuting attorney dug up some dirt and presented it in court.

I love it. The illegal alien invaders hope to get a drivers license and they end up getting arrested and deported. Darth Shitzer's evil plan is to give the illegal aliens drivers licenses, and then they will be able to vote. And who will they vote for? The liberal traitors who allowed them to stay in the state and gave them drivers licenses, that's who. Evil Darth Shitzer!
