The insurance won't cover it even if its doctor recommended. It will cost between 16 and 23 thousand dollars. How can I best go about getting the money to cover this surgery?

In the US it is maditory that ins companies pay for weight loss procedures....given that you fall into their categories. You must be at least 100 pounds overweight. Weight loss surgery isnt the fix all and you still have to change your habits.

Do a google search for medical procedure financing. You should be able to find some place which you can apply for credit. Or you can always do it the old fashioned way and go to the bank.

I had lap band surgery about a 1 1/2 yrs ago. My insurance said they would not pay. I went through an appeal process, I wrote a letter on why I thought they should help me along with a detailed list of the things I had tried over the years to try and loss the weight along with all the reasons that lossing the weight would help improve my life. I also sent them letters from my doctor and chiropractor on why I needed the surgery. They reviewed my information and said they would pay up to $18,000. My husband insurance said it would not pay but they did help pay for some of what my insurance did not cover. Lap band is a slower way of lossing but it does work. I am down from a size 24W to a size 16W. I have lost 60#. Not as much as I would have like by now but it is coming off. Good Luck!!!

Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her lap band surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 30% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Baggy clothes hide your body and encourage lounging around. So even if you're relaxing at home, wear fitted clothes to maintain you on track.

Don't keep junk food with your kitchen. If it's not right now there, you can't be tempted by it.
