About 4 weeks ago I was told that I was pregnant and it was ectopic...and had passed. Then I find out now that I was pregnant both ectopically and "regularly". Im confused about how they could miss this to begin with..they said the baby in my uterus is fine...Im 11 weeks. How can you be pregnant in both places? And what are my chances of this baby surviving?

it is possible but pretty rare for a woman to conceive both an ectopic as well as a normal intrauterine pregnancy. It is generally quoted to have an incidence of about 1 in 30000.

If your normal pregnancy is fine now at 11 weeks, chances are it is going to be ok.

My guess is that they misdiagnosed you because an ectopic pregnancy by definition implants somewhere other than the uterus (usually the fallopian tubes, but also sometimes in the abdomen or cervix). It could not have "moved" and settled safely into your uterus.

Additionally, ectopic pregnancies don't "pass" like a miscarriage. They are removed either non-surgically or surgically (if you're further along).

If they see a viable pregnancy now in your uterus then it was there in the beginning.

Having an actual ectopic pregnancy does make you 15% more likely to have a second one, and 30% more likely to have difficulty conceiving. But like I said before, this probably was not ectopic so your chances are probably the same as if this was a normal pregnancy.

I just had a thought - coudl your doctor be possibly telling you that you conceived twins (non-identical) and maybe they implanted in different places? I guess that's a remote possibility.

you released 2 eggs that month...one implanted in your uterus and one implanted in the Fallopian tube...sorry i dont know about the chances your baby will survive..i think it depends on how the ectopic pregnancy was removed.. I would call and ask your OB/GYN

Twins... yes, its possible. Means one baby was in your tube, one baby was in the correct spot.
