around 19 days gestation, baby is starting to develop hearing.

Auditory sense is present in the infant 24 weeks before birth [14 weeks after conception]. This involves brain functioning and memory patterns.

Recent technology allowed a tiny microphone to be placed by the fetus’s head and "We heard almost everything, from people talking 12 feet away, to a door opening in the room, to a cart going down the hall with the door closed. The clarity was incredible. It was easy to tell who was talking."

The results showed the fetus hears everything we do, only 10 decibels less. Their earliest response to sound was at 26 weeks.

A baby CANNOT hear in their first month of life, contrary to what some of these morons wrote. They haven't had anything develop fully at that point, not hearing, sight, or anything. Typically it is about 25 weeks when a fetus can hear sounds outside of the womb. If you want a week by week development update of how your baby is growing, go to www.babycenter.com. I loved this when I was pregnant!

And for you other people, turn on national geographic once in a while, damn! The world just has too many stupid people out there. :o)

It's estimated that the baby can hear voices inside the womb around week 25 so that would be about month 7. Sounds may be muffled, though, because the ears are still covered with vernix, the thick waxy coating that protects the skin from becoming chapped by the amniotic fluid.

Yes i have to agree, I also found that my daughter could hear me when she was only bout a month or two inside the womb .. i'd speak to the baby through the tummy and told her how excited i am and can't wait to meet her etc .. and for everytime i told her these things i'd be told that she's inside movin about from one place to another ..

Another thing i found so much fun to do was when they do the microphone thing on the mommy's tummy to listen to the baby's heart beat .. even then i'd still say hello to my daughter inside there .. so that she'd come to where the voice is and actually stay still long enough for the doctor to get a good pulse reading lol :)

Congratulations on your blessed addition to the family! wish you your husband and child all the best :)

If you know you are pregnant, the baby can hear you already. Some people believe that talking to your unborn baby will give the baby a strong bond with both parents throughout life.

Based on my experience, I would say this works. Me and my wife talked to our first unborn daughter and now she is a 17-year-old teenager who always tells us what's on her mind, asks us for advice, and still enjoys getting hugs from the parents.

We did the same to our second daughter. Even though she is autistic, she is very sociable and thrives on close contact with us.
