A small gain during pregnancy is normal. They are looking for sharp increase in your blood pressue...it is a condition know as preeclampsia...and is very dangerous. Keep checking your BP everytime you go to the drug store and places like that. Just keep and eye on it and tell your Dr if it gets any higher.

your doctor should tell you that join pregnancy your body is going to go through a lot of changes. BP could be pass on from family as well do to new research. Your doctor if he or she is really concern they would had put you on a special diet. You also have to watch and make sure you eat right. It seems that you aren't one of those girls who try to starve herself. My friend just went to see her doctor they didn't let her leave the hospital til her blood pressure was normal. Seems to me you might want a new or second opinion from another different obgyn.

My blood pressure shot up with my first pregnancy around 8 months pregnant. I had Pre Eclampsia / pregancy induced hyper tension. I had to have non stress tests just about everyday until Dr finally decided I needed to deliver. My blood pressure went back to normal almost immediately after having the baby.

my blood pressure went up during my pregnancy and it slowly kept going up. i was put on bed rest from 7 months and i had her 1 month early because they were worried that the high blood pressure would turn into pre-eclampsia, which can be fatal to you and the baby. Your doctor will keep a very close eye on you to make sure that it is not getting to high. Try not to eat food that is high in fat or Salt. When i was in the hospital they had me on a salt free diet and it helped.
How far along are you?

A heart rate over 100 is considered tachycardia and is not normal. You really need to see a doctor and have an ekg done! I had pregnancy-induced hypertension and it went away within days of delivery. If your blood pressure is still high after delivery, then you have chronic hypertension. It may need to be controlled with meds.

Blood pressure (BP) is NEVER normally elevated in pregnancy.
BP declines in the first trimester, then gradually rises towards term but never return to pregnancy baseline.
so :
High BP is NEVER normal in pregnancy.
but:
right now it is not easy to say that you have high BP, it should be rechecked at least twice a week.

You need to cut back on salt. If not kept in check it can turn into Pre-eclampsia, which can be deadly to mother and baby. I know someone that had to deliver their son at 24 weeks due to this and the baby did not make it. Just make sure you follow your doctor's orders.
