Yes! It is! I was in a car accident when I was a little girl, with some of my family and my mother's boyfriend was drunk and doing the driving. We hit an oil tanker that flipped over! Thank God, it was empty of it's fuel. We made the front page of the newspaper!
From then on for a long time, I could not get into a car! My family member would pull me in kicking and screaming. back then it wasn't thought of to get me some help for the trauma I was experiencing every time I had to get into a car.
Today as an adult, I still have anxiety every time I ride in a car.
I don't drive today as a result of that accident long ago. I cope the best I can, but that accident has never left my mind, that's how traumatic it was!

Absolutely...this will also assist you in becoming a better defensive driver. However, don't fall into a neurosis trap about it like I did. Meditation finally brought me to my senses, but for about 6 months after an accident not long ago, I would get such bad anxiety that my blood pressure would elevate & I would start breathing spastically. Not to mention that a lot of butthead drivers on the roads anyway doesn't help...but like I said, if it becomes overbearing, meditation should help redirect that anxiety and it won't take very long to overcome. Hope this helps.

Of course it is. Take your time to heal emotionally. Soon you will be fine again. Depending on the severity of the accidient will depend on how much time or help you will need.
