Unequivocally, it must be Thomas Jefferson. Why? Because he truly understood the meaning of individual civil rights. Moreover, he's the one who told King George III to go fly a kite via the Declaration of Independence. He was an inventor, a statesman, a gentleman, and lover of freedom. These are all qualities that today's "politicians" are woefully lacking.

Jimmy Carter:
He was smart, degree in nuclear engineering from Georgia Tech.
He had no associations with corruption.
He would get the Palestinian President and the Israeli Prime Minister to settle their differences at Camp David.
He did not involve the USA in wars in foreign soil.
He understood racial differences, environmental needs and had a compassion for the poor.
Unfortunately, he was not well connected in Washington and couldn't get congress to do anything. (Hey, that's a plus too!)

Richard Nixon whose knowledge of and implementation of foreign policy has no equal to date. I think he would never have let this mess get to the point it has. He did make some dumb mistakes on the home front, but his work in foreign policy has been the envy of every president since he was in office. In fact, while he was alive, every president since him called him frequently to get his advice on handling delicate matters in foreign policy.

Chow!!

FDR. He went into office with crap to work with and he rebuilt this country. He'd be able to pull it off now too, I'm sure. Good ole liberals can get the job done.
