I've had 3 inductions because my body doesn't seem to go into labor on it's own, and if I had the chance to go into labor naturally I would take it. I like to try and go natural, like without drugs or epiderals. I had pitocin with the first one and it was really hard (24 hours), I did get drugs and then the epideral and I would say it wasn't a very good experience. With my second I got cytotec (prostoglandins) instead of pitocin, it was the best labor and delivery ever...no drugs or anything and fast (6 hours). My third, which was 6 days ago. Was done with the cytotec again, I would say it was okay but I had a longer labor (11 hours from the first dose). But only 3 hours after they finally broke my water. And I did get drugs but no epideral. The good things from being induced is you get to plan when it happens, no rushing or wondering. The bad things are laying there waiting for the induction drugs to kick in and then how intense they are when they finally do. Also they like you to come in at night and then it's so hard to get sleep, so by the time it's almost over you are so tired. I was actually falling asleep between contractions right before delivering. But after being in prelabor for 5 days before my last one, I was so done being in pain that I thought getting induced to get it over with was the best thing ever. My advice is to ask for prostogladins and getting your water broke before getting pitocin. Good luck! I forgot how much it hurts afterwards and how little sleep you get with a newborn. I'm glad to have it over, but it was much easier when she was inside me!

I did not like being induced and I had to twice because of pregnancy induced hypertension.. it was borderline all the way til the end... I absolutly hated it.. both times, I wish I knew what it was like to go on my own... the pain can be worse because you are bascially forced to go into labor it is not natural at all...I can see inducing if there is a health reason but if it is just because you want him out or the dr says he wants him out, I don't reccommend it!
Good Luck.. I have a step-grandson that was due Monday and she is still waiting for her appt Friday and the dr wants her to be induced, but I say if you can... go for a bumpy ride, go run amile so you don't have to be induced because it sucks!
Oh and also remember... Pitocin doesn't always work with everyone.. you may go in start it and it does nothing for you and your sent back home to wait..

I took Lamaze and didn't wanna be induced for my first child. But was on July 10 was in labor for 14 hours and it got to the point where they wouldn't let me move had to stay on one side most of the time because had problems reading the baby's heart rate. Nothin was wrong with his heart but they just wasn't picking it up. For me waiting and not being able to eat and having to stay on one side was horriable but worth it. I was to the point I was sick of being pregnant. My belly was to heavy and couldn't do anything. But the up side for you is this is your second child. So chances are it'll go quick. Second babies tend to come quicker. And think of it this way if ya do get induced and get bored they have a tv in there for u to watch. And as you know already all the pain and time you're in labor is worth it in the end.I was 2 and 1/2cm when I went in 80% defaced. I had and epidural and so only had 30 mins of real pain. I was on the drip to get induced for 12 hours then doctor broke my water at 4cm then the contractions got really bad told them start the 2 bags ya got to have for 30 mins before ya get the epidural. That got done and I got the epidural at 5cm. The 30mins was hell I was ready to give up and get a section. But didn't and lived through it with help from my hubby and sister who was in delivery room. What made up my mind was I couldn't wait any longer to get the baby here in the world. Good luck in whatever you do. Before ya know it the baby will be here and it'll all be done. If ya need any more advise e mail me.

They give you petocin in order to induce you into labor. The reason that it's known to hurt more is because it brings on the contractions stronger than if you had just started to have them naturally.
With my baby, after I was given my epidural, my labor slowed tremendously, so they gave me petocin. If you're planning on having your baby naturally, I wouldn't get induced, because it'll be harder on you. But if you know you want an epidural, go ahead and do it. I know how hard it is to keep waiting for the baby to come! Best wishes!

Pros: ability to plan ahead, avoid significantly post-term risks, reduce risk of infection if water has been broken 24+ hours, avoid risk to mother if she has diabetes, high blood pressure (eclampsia), other conditions.
Cons: may cause very strong or long contractions, which may also cause stress to the baby, increasing risk of cesarean intervention. Also increased risk of pain medication intervention due to stronger contractions. Restriction to bed or chair due to IV and continuous monitoring.
Labor may be faster, which could be hard on baby, but could be a positive thing for mom.
There are a few ways to naturally induce labor, including nipple stimulation, sex/orgasm, and Caulophylum (homeopathic version of cohosh). Talk to your doctor about your options before deciding, as induction is not a routine procedure, and should only be done for sound medical reasons.

Hi I was induced with my 4th baby and I will be induced on the 18th of this month unless my my 5th decides he wants to come on his own. The other 3 came on their own and I didn't find a different in them. Just was glad it was over can't wait until next Friday 9 days to go. Good luck on your decision.

i was induced with my first daughter but under bad circumstances *she was 8 weeks early and they had previously tried to stop it and when that didnt work they decided to switch to inducing me*.... it honestly especially for my first child wasnt as painful as I thought and my labor after inducing was only like an hour long and only about 15-20 minutes of pushing. And I had her natural completely but then again she was only 4 lbs...dont know if that helps or not but i didnt think it was that bad besides the getting really really hot right after the medication was given to me

I was induced. It wasn't bad but my baby hadn't dropped yet. Induction got her to drop because it sped up the contractions to a level that would lead to birth. However, I had complications. The baby dropped on her cord (a rare complication, induced or otherwise so it's nothing to worry about) and we had to go with an immediate emergency cesarean. I'm convinced it would have done the trick, however, had it not been for the cord prolapse.

If you want to get it over with and the doctor is offering it then go for it...but then if you do not get it over with then you will sit and wait till you go into labor on your own.
