Is Alanis Morissette just a singer or an artist who writtes beautiful poems?

a little of both.. and the girl that said she hasn't been around in a long time.. just because you haven't heard any songs on the radio of hers.. doesn't mean she's not around.. she's released some newer stuff... pay attention!
and as for the other answerer who stated alanis was a rip off of ani difranco, she should do some research herself.. alanis released her first album in 91... ani was still trying to make it as an artist and was strictly playing college coffee houses in the early 90's... alanis released her first album before ani even had the money to MAKE an album.

Great artist wear many hats :). Her music is incredible - she does an amazing job at conveying her angst through her music - it's brutally honest, yet sensitive too. "Under Rug Swept" is one of my favorite albums!

I would like to believe she is both. I love her music and her spiritual style. Although through out her career she had gone through major changes with music and herself, but that's what made me like her even more her ability to change.

i think she is a little bit of both, i think she will go down in music history as one of the best singers, her sound is different as she brilliant with her lyrics.
