That means that the male is preparing a bubble nest for his young. In other words, he's horny. Believe it or not, the male wraps his body around the female to squeeze eggs out of her. Then he fertilizes them. Once this process is completed, you remove the MOM because she will eat the young. Dad raises the fertilized eggs and hides them in that bubble nest that he just created.

In nature a bettas live in shallow wide rice patties, and ponds. A male betta needs to be ready to mate if a female wanders thru his area. Thus any time a male betta is healthy, well fed, and bonds with his territory he instinively starts building a bubble nest. It's generally a good sign.

Just remember your betta is a betta not a human!!! He is not lonely. Bettas of all sexes are territorial, and not a social fish. Mating is a rough violent affair that sometimes results in the death of one of your betta. (Don't count out the female I had one female that beat up one of my males.) Resist the urge to add a female to his tank. If you are interesting in mating betta please read betta talk, and have a plan to deal with 100+ offspring.

Well, bettas breathe air. Often, you;ll see it spit a few bubbles out of it's mouth, or through it's gills.

Most stores sell only male bettas, who make a nest of bubbles (which looks sort of like a spit wad) In this case, the spit wad sort of bubble thing means that the betta is healthy, ready and willing to mate, and is marking his territory.

Bettas are pretty violent lovers. If you want to mate them, you should do so in a tank of at least 10 gallons, and you SHOULD watch. The male often kills the female if she's not ready (It's hard for beginners to know when the female is ready) or even if she is ready, he'll often kill her after she's laid all her eggs. Be prepared to move the girl out to someplace safe.

as has been mentioned he is building a nest for a place to keep the eggs. If you had a pair (male and female) you would soon have a tank full of fry.

It also means you are keeping the fish in fairly good water conditions. Fish that are not properly fed or maintained in good water conditions will not want to breed.

Congrats on maintaining a healthy place for your fish to live.

It means that they are ready to breed as they are known as Bubblenest Breeder. When they saw any female around, they will blow a nest to show that they are ready to breed.
