I was in line buying a lot of school supplies, for my students, and some guy behind me said "wow, you must have a lot of kids!" I was in line by myself (no kids), with 10-15 of each item that I was buying. Why would someone say that? Could it be that I'm a teacher? Could it be that I'm buying to donate supplies? Or is it because I'm black and shopping in the middle of the day, it's natural to assume that I must have a gaggle of kids waiting for me at home?
