Any time the right wing in America has the power they push the center of politics to the rirght. You should push it back but I feel, even now when you're sure you're gonna win, that you are almost appollogising for your ideas.Stand up for one time. The world needs an American left side.Democracy requieres a strong left side.

Ericson,I see your point on etremes, but isn't it gone overboard.Like now everyone dwells in the gray middle. In my opinion not very democratic.Where's the choice if all politicians are more or less the same?

It's conditioning. When you get beaten up by the schoolyard bully for years, it's hard to feel a sense of self confidence.

Besides, emotion shouts louder than logic and reason, and too many of the left-wing platform issues are based on being reasonable. So they get out-shouted by the opposing views which are based on pure emotion.

I am by nature a Republican but have been voting Democrat to get some balance back, unfortunately I don't think it does any good. Both sides are completely corrupt. You want to get elected, all you have to do is go to a special interest group (usually in the form of a big corporation) and tell them you'll let them write and vote for whatever legislation they want if they get you elected. You get the money and media coverage to win and then you don't even have to do any work because the special interest that got you elected does everything for you. Oh wait, they do vote themselves raises every year.

Most people aren't extreme on either side of the political spectrum. Politicians (except in urban areas) cannot afford to have those kinds of labels if the vast majority of their voters would feel alienated by them.

LMAO! Honey, it's the republicans that are distancing themselves from Bush, and even changing parties to get the stink of this administration off of them! Not all of us who are left of Bush, are left of center.
