Use boiling salt water. The salt will discourage any ants away from the hive when you attack it from rebuilding. Pouring table salt around the mound later will also collect on the feet of the ants, and kill them. Remember the salt will kill the grass. (Althought he boiling water will too)

You need to try to kill the ant hill. Some of the products listed below will only make them move a few feet and start another hill. When you go to the store to look for a poison for them read all the labels so you are getting the right stuff. The boiling water might not penetrate far enough to kill all the ants and they would just move to a new location

Check my list of sites below for all the hints you could possibly want for how to get rid of ants permanently. Once you get rid of the ants, the hills will disappear. Good luck!!

killing the ants will only make them vengeful because you killed a part of their colony,so they're going to be stubborn/angry.thus,build more ant hills.i suggest using a portable vacuum with an attachment to suck the ants into the canister,so that you may relocate the ants into your neighbor's yard when they're not home.then they'll rebuild an ant hill there so it's going to be their problem now.if you actually like your neighbors, then release the ants at the park instead:)

If it is not a huge ant hill, you can use lots boiling water to kill the ants and they will not be able to build a new hill.

Put lighter fluid on the ant hill and burn it. Make sure that it is a controled fire, though. Have a bucket or bag of sand or dirt nearby to bury the flames. Or water, of course. You could also pour bleach on the hill.

We use a product called "Amdro" and it works great. It's a granule type product that you just sprinkle on the ground wherever you see ants and they eat it and take it back to the nest and it wipes out the entire colony. We occasionally get ants in one closet inside our house and we just sprinkle it on the floor and the next day vacuum up whatever is left and that's it, they're gone.

Try spreading "Borax" around the hill. It has worked for us in the past and we had a major problem with ants.
