Don't take this the wrong way.
If he is gone for any reason, believe me, you do not want anything to do with Haiti. it will be way more expensive for you to get anything from there than it is actually worth. You do not want to deal with Haitian lawyers, you do not want to deal with Haitian courts, and you definitely do not want to go trying to collect someones state in a country where everybody is armed, and kidnapping is a way of life.

No kidding. You are entitled to NOTHING. Probably isnt even a legal marriage. You been 5 months an you are already planning to try to take some of his things even though he has kids? If you were married for 5 years and had kids with him maybe you would be "entitled" for support and half of possesions accumulated while married but 5 months and you think he owes you? Done with the rant. If the Haitian government doesn't even know you are married already then it's not legal and he is probably deceiving you in which case you are getting what you deserve. NOTHING

without trying to sound cruel. you are entitled to nothing if he had everything before your wedding. it will all go to his children who have been there from day one. say he were to die today, the courts will look at the 5 months you have been together as a joke. 5 months and you want apart of what took this man much longer to build and acquire. invest a few years and then maybe you'll be able to receive something. sorry i know it's not the answer you want to hear but it's how it should be.

independantlady? you sound like a gold digger. To answer your question- can you spell "WILL" can you spell "LAWYER"?
Next I have to ask WHY do you think your 'entitled' to anything he acquired in Haiti? And WHY after only five months of marriage are you already checking to see what you'll get when he DIES!! Dang woman you should be praying for a long and happy life together and not barrow trouble, it comes all by it self.

Swim over and you'lle get the same benefits befitting any other Haitian. Look at travel guides like travel and leisure before you go so you wont have to endure any hardships with the other people there

If that were to happen you would need to go to Port-au-Prince and contact a lawyer... a GOOD lawyer, because I seriously doubt your Haitian Creole would be anywhere near good enough to work your way through that convulated and corrupt legal system they have on the island. OH... and be prepared to pay LOTS of money for bribes.

5 months huh?......are you thinking something is gonna happen? I don't know how the laws in Haiti are.....but you would probably have to show a proof of marriage...and if he already has a will then you may be out of luck.........your not planning his demise are you?

Ask him to contact the Haitian Govt. and see what procedures you can go about incase something does happen to him. Should have done this before you were married. Good luck

I know you feel some answers are cruel, but when a person has been married for five months and they are trying to figure out how to get their husband's stuff when he dies, that makes them seem golddigging and soulless. I feel sorry for your husband and hope he gets away from you and finds a woman who loves him, because I cannot imagine that you do if this is what is on your mind.
