The USA is really scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as military is concerned and we've gone too deep to withdrawal because as Americans our government will be too arrogant and asinine to admit its mistakes and call it a day. But even if they do suddenly develop brains, we will need to find a way to supply a military to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and our own borders and ports to insure our safety. No one is going to make quota as far as enlistment is concerned and someone in the government is going to come to the realization that our military is not going to function on a voluntary service... Tell me what ya think!

I completely disagree with your assessment of the US military. I have two friends - both from upper middle/lower upper class homes who are in the military now and ready to go to Iraq.

I don't foresee the draft being reinstated. It is the one thing that would probably unite left and right against the government at this time. It would take a major and devastating event (that makes 9/11 look tiny) to get the people united behind a draft. However, in that case, I suspect that there would be so many volunteers a draft wouldn't need to be considered anyway.

Tough to say. Lots of issues going to come to a head because money is running out too . . . maybe troops will be recalled from some of the 800 or so outposts the US mans around the world to feed the government warmongering habit.

The Department of Defense is against the draft. They don't want low quality draftees who don't want to be there. Plus the Army hasn't been too far off on recruitment numbers. They can always do more bonuses to get more people to join. Hell I'd probably enlist for a $50,000 sign on bonus!!!!

Not until the USA coordinates with the governments of Canada and Mexico to see if they can handle the overflow of cowards running north and south, a la Vietnam

With the number of recruits going into the reserves and the National Guard and getting their college paid for, it will probaby be quite a while. It will happen, though.

Do you think Bush cares? If he needs more 'cannon fodder', to bolster his insane ideas, prepare to be drafted. Or make friends in Canada NOW!

I could be wrong but I doubt we'll see a draft anytime soon.
