Americans don't squabble over the price of gas as much as they do the reasons they are being told why there is a rise in prices. We are being led to believe that the price for foreign oil keeps rising. Most Americans want to know why the US buys foreign oil when there are so many capped wells in the US; which would lower the price of gas if un-capped and used.
Another big bite in the a** is being told that the oil mongors are hovering in the billions of dollars in profits while the prices keep rising.
However, I definately feel for anyone that has to pay 9-10 dollars for a gallon of gas. That's ridiculous.

We moan about it because we dont live on a little tiny Island. Our Country is HUGE! and our cities are all spread out instead of cramped and crowded. In my Business, I drive between 60-100 miles/day. The average American drives over 12,000 miles/year. Also, our transportation system is designed around cars instead of public transit...So we pay for gas instead of train/bus fares.
Also, The ONLY reason you are paying that much is because YOU VOTED to elect SOCIALISTS to office and created a Government that is HUGE!!! Taxes get higher the more you want to suck at the teats of the state....and your fuel taxes are obscene! We use our gasoline taxes to maintain roads here...not to finance the 'Welfare State'...Consequently, the TOTAL tax I pay in my state for tax on a gallon of Gasoline is about 45cents...

buy a smaller gas using vehicle or try an alternative fuel source.
if you did so you would help our american cousins to put off yet again the signing of the treaty on emissions. come on lads there in a bind over there , all those big cars and tankers following them. its no fun paying only a quarter what everone else pays and not having to look to thier childrens future is it.

It is already about $10 here, but all things are relative.
Wages, holidays, cost of living etc.
Selecting the price of fuel alone is pretty pointless. We get ripped off on entertainment, alcoholic drinks, food etc.

part of the reason we pay so much is that the yanks still import a serious amount of oil. rather than use their own. of course, the dictator in charge has advisors of slightly higher intelligence than himself, almost approaching pondlife status, who tell him to keep all american oil where it is until the **** really hits the fan. at which point ta-da, sod you guys and sod the A-rabs, we've got plenty thanks, but we'll sell it to you at an even higher price...
