I went at 18. I was avoiding it, because the scapula is NOT your friend... It's really quite unpleasant. But going on with an infection would be a lot worse than anything your gynecologist will do. If it weren't for my visit, I'd never have learned about my polycystic ovaries.
The reccomended "first required visit" is now age 21 for your first pap smear.

The first time I went was when I was 17 years old to get a pregnancy test done. Now I go yearly (or try to anyway) to get the usual checkup done. I think it's a good idea if parents take or make their daughters go to the gynecologist as soon as they start menstruating. Going to the gynecologist isn't the nicest thing on earth, but it's a necessary evil.

16, I got my period and got cramps so bad I couldnt stand up. My mom had to carry me to the car then into the gynos, even with the pain killers they gave me I was still lying in bed in the same position for two days. I've gone back once a year since.
It's no big deal to go there, if you have an infection they'll most likely look at it and decide what kind of medication you need to get rid of it.

Well, I am 48, & I didn't go until I was in my 20's & sexually active.
I think a young girl should go if there is a problem, if her family has a history of problems in that area, or she becomes sexually active.
If you are 16 & have an infection, you have probably been sexually active or, been eating too much sugar & have a yeast infection.

Usually it is recommended a woman go when she starts menstruating, or having sex
I would say between 16 and 18 is a good age to start going

I was 18. It's not that bad if you have a good Dr that will make you feel comfortable. I prefer a women just because I couldn't image having a man down there like that. Just grit your teeth and bare it because in the end it's definatley worth taking the precautions.

You should go if you are having a problem, are sexually active, or about to get married.
16 seems young, but it is better to go and get treated then stay at home and be miserable. They may do a pap smear, ask your mom about those, they are not pleasant.
