I have cream carpets. Last year, our fireplace had a problem. As a result, we now have some black/gray smoke damage lines around the base of the walls and around the fireplace. Will a good, professional carpet cleaner be able to get these stains out? And, what company do you recommend?

Odds are, the stains will come out, but leave a "new" look due to fading/age. If you have the same carpet being used in closets, try taking a thin strip from the edges in closet, and trim bad areas away from fireplace edge, then either glue the new strips in place or shave some fibers from like carpet and glue them in place.

Point is, to use like/similar carpet to replace stained/damaged carpet. :)

If you get a fire restorer it will almost certainly come out. Just any cleaning service may not be able to do it. Tell them what you told us when you call, and if they say, we'll just have to see, rather than, we have some cleaner, but I can't make any guarantees, check around some more.

not to advertise... but you might try using oxyclean... the reason why im saying this....

i washed basically all of my good A&E/A&F clothes together and there was a pen in one of them... needless to say i had ink EVERYWHERE... i tried everything ...and then i tried oxyclean ... and a lil scrubbing and one wash cycle later ...poof about 99% of it was gone. . so you might try mixing some of that with water and just scrubbing it..
