The fact that a fly flies away to avoid being crushed shows a fear of death , and a love of life, the desire for happiness...How can it be that any other life form , no matter how small or large , could be any less valuable than any other? How do you feel , what are your thoughts? How do you deal with the guilt? Is there karma to be expected?

For those who ask...Yes , I do feel guilty for killing anything , anything at all..I feel immence love for all of life , not one above another , I step over ant hills on the side walk , or worms when they are bathing in the rain , I still kill flies and mosquitos and billions of bacteria when I brush my teeth , but also deal with guilt , in the knowledge of the loss of life...all life is one , there is no greater or lesser, I think that humans have greatly misunderstood this value...But thats just me.

I know exactly what you mean Cory.
Yes, animals and even insects have fear, which indicates that they value their life and fear pain, just like us.
Their size is just relative. Imagine things were reversed, what if the ant was much bigger than us, and looked down on us as an annoyance, and squished us without a thought?
Thuth is, anything that lives must have a soul, otherwise it would have nothing to guide its existance or give it drive to do anything.
A dead human has all of the components necesary to keep on living, but it is a machine without a driver once the soul leaves.
It will do nothing, and the same applies for any living thing.
The tibetians favor this view. You might try some research there.
Good question!

No I don't feel guilty at all, nor do I feel guilty consuming meat.

Why? Because I believe that all life forms have a soul and that at the soul level we all have a purpose for incarnating into the physical form we now possess. I also believe that we are eternal souls and that we choose (not consciously) at the soul level, our time and manner of death. I believe that death is not the end, but the beginning of a new phase of our lives. We return to the spiritual realm and there decide if we want to reincarnate or not.

Our bodies, our egos, our minds, our natural instincts fear the death of their existences. The soul knows that all these things are temporal illusions of this physical plane, and are not the core of our true selves.

Death is not a tragedy. It is simply the door back to our true home in the spiritual dimension, which we have forgotten about so that we can focus all of our attention on this one. As we are supposed to.

No, I don't feel guilty at all. Mosquitoes cause more deaths worldwide than cancer, AIDS, accidents etc. combined.

Flies transmit filth and disease as well.

I feel I am saving lives by killing flies and mosquitoes. Then I feel good. Then I go out and have people sign petitions to bring back DDT.

it could have been wearing a affliction. Plead self-protection. God might have Intelligently Designed each and all of the germs to be so huge shall we see them, and too huge for a mosquito to hold. And if He did no longer prefer human beings smacking the mosquitoes, he might have made mosquitoes plenty cuter, and lots much less annoying. ( as an occasion: toddlers have not primary Jesus, yet they're too gorgeous to at present burn as heretics. GOD made them that way, and can have achieved the comparable with bugs.) He made His judgements, and He could settle for duty for the implications.

As I get older I've been thinking more about the ethics of killing insects. If they're in my house...they die. That's all there is to it. I don't want them spreading diseases. Outside I will only kill them if they are in the act of biting me. When I was little I used to chase ants around with a magnifying glass. That must have been horrific for them. I feel bad that I did that.

no u shouldnt because u r sparing other people from infections if not u... u r saving others lives

u can catch infections through mosquitoes n flies. no sins commited wen u kill them... so no way one should feel guilty... it is said that u should not accept that others (here the files) harm u... staying quiet is a bigger sin... so u need to combat them n kill them n protect ur life which god gives u. is that ok???

there's need for death too. the circle of life. survival of the fittest. natural selection. evolution. it's all necessary and has nothing to do with karma. survival that is. karma, i believe, is how you live your life and how you treat others. karma would play a role if death was intended as a form of entertainment. torture. etc...

btw, no i don't feel guilty killing insects. they could equally kill you. (infections, diseases, germs, etc.)

Would you feel guilty if you killed a snake? Or a dog with rabies? People come first.

P.S. I like the way you worded your question
