Because the postmen are lazy to go to your doorstep...... just kidding. So that u will not try to send a furniture or car by normal post as they will not fit into the letterbox.

You don't need one. Just ask the mail carrier to throw the letters in the general direction of your house.

you need it to contain letters/mails sent to your address? you don't expect the postman to run to every home units and drop the letters at your doorsteps?
