If you suffer from chronic sciatica, and you've seen a medical doctor to rule out any other serious threat to your health (or if the MD can only prescribe pain medication to dull the symptoms), you might want to consider chiropractic care as a treatment option. Chiropractic is founded in the belief that the Central Nervous System (our brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls EVERY bodily function. When the spinal column is misaligned (what chiropractic calls a subluxation), the vertebrae can pinch/damage the nerves that run out between them, causing pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of general malfunction in that nerve's corresponding body part.

A pinched sciatic nerve may be the cause of your pain, and if that is the case then I think a chiropractor might be able to help. Chiropractic works to bring the vertebrae back into their proper place and remove the pressure from the nerves. It is a favorable healthcare option because it is very safe, effective, and doesn't use surgery or drugs that can have potentially unwanted side effects. I can't guarantee that this is a definite "cure," but I used to work in a chiropractic office and saw how it helped many people with back pain & sciatica, and tingling in the hands and feet.

If you do decide to see a chiropractor, ask family and friends for recommendations, visit a few offices, and choose the doctor that you are most comfortable with. No matter what you decide to do, I hope that things improve for you. Good luck.

Check here a very effective sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Hi there,
It is a fact that no one condition reflects sciatica and it would be prudent to refer to it as a generic medical term encompassing lots of symptoms that taken together describe a lower back pain that a patient suffers from. When someone complains of severe back pain that passes down to legs through his buttocks, even down to his feet and toes, doctors suspect him to be suffering from sciatica. Often sciatica presents itself as numbness or a tingling sensation that may not be anything like the severe pain commonly associated with sciatica. This tingling or numbness may be felt by the person when he engages in some activities.

On this site you can find very good tips on how to treat your sciatica: http://curesciatica.toptips.org
Hope it helps.

Yes my husband did and still does, but don't do what he did unless the pain is so bad you are virtually housebound.
He had an operation to remove the pressure from the nerves in his back and they cut into his spinal cord by mistake and didn't realise it till he started leaking spinal fluid from the wound, they had to re operate 2 weeks later to sew up the spinal column sac and even to today he had permanent nerve damage and is now disabled. Also while he was in hospital nearly half of all the other cases of back ops went wrong, some of them left the recipients in a weird and twisted sort of shape, a bit like a question mark,, otheres couldn't stand etc. Hope you improve soon and just rest it as much as you can and try to avoid surgery.

Yes from about 5 months pregnant. I couldn't walk properly and laying in bed killed no matter how I lay. I used to laugh at people that said the sleepless nights would start once the baby arrived!

Oh yes!

I get mine sorted through sports injury massage (you don't need to be a sports person to have the massage).

The massages once a month keep it at bay, if it flares up I just go for extra pummelling. The massage does hurt, but it really has cured me.

Hope you get well soon.

Oh yeah.
Aspirin helps along with a warm bath, or better yet a whirlpool.
Good Luck!
