Thats the whole point...The reason they are so intent on teaching creationism in schools instead of Evolution is because the pure evidence of evolution disproves thier religion. I mean think about it this way...in order for religion to survive you need people to go to church..so what if for the next 20 years 9 out of 10 kids decided that, Yeah the bible is wrong and Evolution actually has evidence...do you know what that would do to organized religion...It may wipe it out. So that means...no more church...no more money. Get it?

Very good question. I suppose it is because in a forum of learning and allowing a young mind to form their own decisions based on the information they are provided with, such as is a school, evolution is taught as the only explanation for the existenc of life. I don't believe its solely being against the teaching of evolution as it is being against the refusal or prohibition of the teaching of intelligent design, let alone creation. You state the Bible is not proof of anything. Well, last time I checked, evolution is still a 'theory' and therefore the same as intelligent design based on a scientific defenition. I believe both should be taught and let the evidence allow the student to 'make up' their own mind. Also, you may want to look a little more into the scientific, acheological, and phrophetical(mathematical probability) evidence for what the Bible teaches. You would be surprised at what proof it does offer in contrast to what you may assume to be proof at face value.

Indeed! If they claim to preach tolerance and love, why not tolerate the teaching of evolution? If anything, they should be advocating teaching evolution alongside creation instead of one or the other. At least then students would have a balanced source of knowledge. Then again, if we accepted the Christian view of creation, i'm sure other groups would complain and soon schools would be teaching that the world rests on the back of a turtle and is actually the left testicle of Zeus. I love the fossil thing too - i've never heard an argument for why fossils exist if the earth is only so old. Good question!

Man has only scratched the surface in science discovery and understanding. Yes, there has been progress in certain fields, but where we came from is a totall mystery. We live with laws of physics today that may not have applied over 100,000 years ago. There is no proof for this or any other THEORY.
The measurments of carbon pressure measure back in millions of years because they are based on the physics of our life today. Different physics may have existed at different times on Earth. Also, more and more understanding of genetics shows that mutation is possible, but not evolution of species from one to another.
The bible is an option of what could have happened. Christians, Jews, Muslims and many other religions belive in creation of life from God. Today this is just as good a theory as any other, and many people can't prove the bible to you, but this why you have to Believe. It's all in the faith, not proof.
The Bible serves as a belief system, theories are just white smoke. Why should it be taught as if it has been proven. Today we have more proof that the Bible is right and Evolution remains simply a Theory.

I am a Christian, and my kids went to Catholic school...THEY do not teach creationism (except possibly in religion class)! I think that would be a very closed minded thing to do. In Catholic school, they explained to my kids that the book of Genesis is not to be taken in literal terms. In fact, much of the Bible is not to be taken literally. Not only that, but how does anyone here know what a "day" is to God? An eon is like the blink of an eye to Him! Evolution just might have been by Divine design...it's a "mystery".
I do not agree with your atheism (or agnosticism). It's not for me, but you are entitled to believe (or not) however you want. I do not try to force my beliefs down anyone else's throat. And I agree with your point that evolution needs to be taught in schools, because creationism is simply not scientific! It is just a story!!
People who take that story as being just the way that it happened sound ingorant. At least, that's how it sounds to me. Uneducated Christians give the rest of us a bad name!! Not all of us are stupid and closed minded...but some are, I'm sorry to say.

As a Jesus follower and life long Christian, I have always been afraid of the implications of the Evolutionist theories. Science and Christianity is a tricky balance in which one walks a fine line between understanding the logistics, facts, and/or formulas of living and non-living elements and having faith in a God that is all powerful, all knowing, and all loving! This faith in God's creation is what allows most Christian's to say "I'm not going to look closely at evolution, because I don't have to understand the innerworkings of the last 10 million years of life on earth. God created it, it says so in Genisis, and I'm okay with that." See... I do believe that the human race in the 21st century thinks that we need to know EVERYTHING (especially with our advances in technology, etc.). And by knowing everything, we will resort all living and non-living things to a science or formula, therefore eliminating the need for a higher being... convincing ourselves that we are in control of all. This is what scares the life out of me!!! Can't we see what a mess we have made of this world already!
Anyway, I've recently read a book. So, please do not generalize that all Christians are against evolution. It really openned my eyes to how both views can exist and even teach about this earth together. Please check it out. "The Story We Find Ourselves In" by Brian McLaren. It's book 2 of a trilogy, but it's the one that specifically addresses creation vs. evolution. Keep searching! (In reference to "The Bible is not proof of anything!", check out books by Lee Strobel "The Case for Faith, the Case for Christ, and/or the Case for a Creator." Excellent for those facing agnostisim or atheism.

Bible has been written there's about 2000 years ago, in 2000 years, people get to believe strongly that This is the right thing to believe. and not long ago (less than 50 years) church had a really big influence (not as much as today), they used to say that nothing can go against the Bible so it has kind of got into the people's mind that religion is right. You can't, in a couple of years, destroy the people's belief of 2000 years old.

Mainly because evolution is taught as fact and not theory. I think its obvious that evolution exists in creatures...things adapt to their environments all the time. I personally believe in the doctrine of biblical "kinds" there were only certain base families of animals that survived the flood and each species developed from that originating creature.

there is a reason its called the "theory" of evolution. it is exactly that a loose group of related ideas none of which are provable, which is more creditable to you. that there could possibly be a supreme being who designed the universe or that a microscopic mass of NOTHING exploded and created all of what is out there and that life is a random set of very percise accidents which no one can now reproduce. It is based on Darwins book "The Origin of Species" the real clincher is however that on his death bed Darwin rejected his own work on the subject

They are against teaching evolution because it disproves many of the ideas that they believe to be fact just because they read it in a book. These religions are so full of holes that they fear teaching their children any different will give them enough sense to get out of the church.
