If you;re wanting to save something as a word doc, htm, or html, you've gotta see what program you're working on... If you're working on a Microsoft WORD, you will automatically save it as a 'word doc', but to save something as a HTM or HTML, you've gotta use Microsoft FrontPage to automatically save as a HTM or HTML or use Notepad and save it as HTM or HTML by clicking on Files>> Save As>> type in the file name.html or htm (ex. Index.html/htm)>> then click OK

if you want to save something as a word doc either create it in word and will automatically be a word doc or if its a text doc that you want to be word right click on it choose open with then a small window will open look through the list of programs until you find word then choose word and from now on that doc will be associated with word. to create and html doc just open a text doc type in whatever code you want on there then do a save as and for the extention put .htm or .html and that should do it.
good luck

To save something as a word doc, you need to either use Word or a program that can save in that format (for free I recommend OpenOffice.org from http://www.openoffice.org/ ).

Don't use Word, etc. to create an html file; Word creates the worst HTML code known to mankind. If you are trying to save plain text with html tags as an html file from notepad, type in the file name and extension (suchandsuch.html) and select "All Files" from the file types drop down.
